I purchased this splitting axe to split about 150 logs that were approximately 18 inches long and 8 to 10 inches thick. The wood was seasoned and some of it had been split before, however it was still too thick to burn well in my fireplace. Being a COMPLETE novice at splitting wood, I wasn't really sure what would work best - a sledgehammer and a splitting wedge, a regular axe, a maul, or a specialized splitting axe like this one. I looked at several other lower priced options at my local store, but after looking at several very positive reviews of this item on various websites, I decided to spend the extra $15 and give it a try. I can't say how well the other options worked because I haven't used them before, but this Fiskars splitting axe worked amazingly well. I put the wood I wanted to split on a large flat stump so that it would have a solid surface underneath. I took a big swing and - after getting the hang of how far away I should stand - the wood split with relative ease. I found that I really didn't have to swing with all my might, just a nice steady swing and this axe sends wood flying! Being a rookie, I did hit the handle on the wood numerous times until I really got in the groove.... Originally I had been concerned about the handle because it seems like just a plastic material... but it took at least 15 HARD hits and no damage to the handle whatsoever. I was wearing regular gardening gloves throughout the process and didn't feel any excessive shock through the handle. It took me about 2 hours to split and stack the pile of logs and overall I'm very pleased. I feel that this axe worked perfectly.My teenage sons even got in on the fun - and after a few warm up hits both of them were able to easily split the logs. Excellent buy!
Mitenkäs vippazkirveellä halotaan tuommosia hieman kuivahtaneita, liki puolmetrisiä ja noin parikyt senttiä paksuja pöllejä ? Siis normaaleita polttopuupöllejä ?
