"With the introduction of the Quadtrac 600 with its maximum output of 670hp (ECE R120) Case IH is now knocking on the door of the 700hp barrier. This is part of a new range of Steiger and Quadtrac models which use an SCR equipped Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT) motor to meet the Stage 3b emission legislation.
The wheeled Steiger 350 (355hp rated / 391hp max) and 400 (406hp/446hp) both use a Cursor 8.7-litre lump while the Steiger and Quadtrac 450 (457hp/502hp), 500 (508hp/558hp), 550 (558hp/614hp) and 600 (608hp/670hp) use a larger 12.9-litre version with the top two models also getting twin turbos. Case IH says these new tractors offer a 9% reduction in fuel usage thanks to the exhaust treatment system allowing the engine to burn the fuel more effectively.
Those with a keen eye for details will spot that the Steiger 350 and 400 have the exhaust stack on the right and air intake on the left while the larger models have this the other way around. Fuel capacity on the larger models with saddle tanks is 1,880 litres with the 250-litre urea tank usually being enough to treat two fills of the diesel tanks.
Up in the cab operators are greeted with the Multicontroller armrest from the Puma models, which can also be found in the new Magnum tractors. Attached to the armrest is the new AFS Pro 700 touch screen terminal. As well as being ISObus compatible and acting as the interface for AFS steering guidance systems up to three cameras can also be plumbed into the screen, in fact up to six functions can be displayed at once. This is combined with a new A-pillar design for other tractor information.
These articulated models also get four point cab suspension, an industry first for this type of tractor according to Case IH. Up to eight hydraulic remotes can be fitted and the hydraulic system is now capable of pumping 428 litres per minute and a pto is now available. For night work up to 10 xenon lights can be specified."
