"The Finnish shipping company ESL Shipping Oy has ordered two 56,150 DWT supramax bulk carriers from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd, South Korea. The newbuildings will be built to Finnish/Swedish Ice Class 1A. They are substantially larger than the vessels in the present fleet, of which the largest are about 20,000 DWT. The vessels are to be delivered during the first half of 2012 and the total value of the investment is about EUR 60 million. ESL Shipping has also a 20,000 DWT bulk carrier under construction in India for delivery in autumn 2010.
“The Baltic Sea cargo markets will continue growing as the economic development in the area recovers. Simultaneously the need to transport raw materials around the year with ever growing vessels is increasing. At the same time, we can participate in new projects where transportation reliability around the year is crucial,” says Markus Karjalainen, CEO of ESL Shipping."
